From January 6 to 9, 2016, the Consumer Electronics Show took place in Las Vegas, showcasing the most technologically advanced boat ever seen. Before now, had you ever seen someone control their luxury yacht with an iPad? The Adastra is an exceptional trimaran and true technological masterpiece.
The Adastra, which means “to the stars” in Latin, is not new. It was actually built in April 2012. But it remains the only boat you can control via an iPad, even today. So, why are we talking about it four years later?
Attention-grabbing
A trimaran like this is just begging for attention—undivided attention. And that’s regardless of what year it is or which ocean you’re on. It’s not only the most technologically advanced of its kind, it’s also incredibly luxurious, spacious, comfortable, fast, easy to handle, green and fuel-efficient. Plus, it’s impossible to miss and instantly attracts everyone’s attention. And that’s exactly what happened when it cruised into Papeete, Tahiti. Thanks to its unique design and sheer size (42.5 metres long and 16 metres wide), the Adastra quickly stole everyone’s attention, including that of the press.
Powerful, yet efficient
This boat was designed by John Shuttleworth, who ensured it would be both singular and futuristic, in addition to technically advanced. With fluid lines and streamlined hulls, it’s very stable and can navigate the high seas with ease. It’s also extremely fast thanks to its powerful 1,150-horsepower Caterpillar engine, which is assisted by two 110-horsepower engines. There’s no question that it’s powerful, but it’s also remarkably fuel efficient, as it can travel 6,500 kilometres on a single tank of fuel.
A cool $15 million
In addition to being breathtakingly unique, the Adastra is a floating palace. This superyacht, which took two years to design, is valued at $15 million and belongs to a couple of billionaires. But they’re willing to rent out their trimaran to anyone who wants it—for a mere $600,000 per week. Sound good to you?
